Physical Therapy in Vero Beach, FL: What to Expect at Your First Visit

Starting physical therapy can feel overwhelming. Here's what new patients at our Vero Beach clinics can expect from day one — from evaluation to personalized treatment planning.

Starting Physical Therapy in Vero Beach

If you've been referred to physical therapy — or are considering it — you might be wondering what actually happens during your first visit. At Longevity Rehab Center, we've been helping patients in Vero Beach and Indian River County recover and move better since 1997. Here's exactly what to expect.

Your Initial Evaluation

Your first appointment at one of our Vero Beach clinics is an evaluation, not a treatment session. Your licensed physical therapist will spend time getting to know your medical history, your current symptoms, and your goals. This typically takes 45–60 minutes and includes:

  • Health history review — current medications, prior surgeries, and relevant diagnoses
  • Pain assessment — where it hurts, when it hurts, and what makes it better or worse
  • Functional movement testing — how you walk, bend, reach, and move
  • Strength and range of motion testing — to identify deficits
  • Neurological screening — reflexes, sensation, and nerve function when relevant

Your Personalized Treatment Plan

Based on your evaluation, your therapist will design a personalized treatment plan. This plan will outline your diagnosis, your short and long-term goals, how many visits per week we recommend, and the types of interventions we'll use — which may include manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, dry needling, electrical stimulation, or aquatic therapy at our West Vero Beach location.

What to Bring to Your First Visit

  • Your insurance card and photo ID
  • Your doctor's referral or prescription (if required by your insurance)
  • A list of current medications
  • Completed new patient paperwork (available on our website)
  • Comfortable clothing that allows access to the area being treated
