Why Post-Surgical Rehabilitation Matters
Surgery is only the first step. Whether you've had a total knee replacement, hip arthroplasty, rotator cuff repair, or spinal surgery, the quality of your recovery depends heavily on what happens after the operating room. Evidence consistently shows that patients who complete a structured physical therapy program following surgery recover faster, regain more function, and have better long-term outcomes.
Common Surgeries We Rehab at Longevity Rehab Center
- Total knee replacement (TKR) — the most common surgery we rehab; goal is full range of motion and return to walking normally
- Total hip replacement (THR) — focus on hip precautions, strength, and safe gait restoration
- Rotator cuff repair — phased return to full shoulder function over 3–6 months
- Lumbar spinal fusion or discectomy — core stabilization and nerve desensitization
- ACL reconstruction — comprehensive return-to-sport program
- Shoulder or hip labrum repair — protection of surgical site combined with progressive strengthening
- Carpal tunnel release — hand therapy and functional restoration
Our Post-Surgical Rehabilitation Approach
We follow surgeon-specific protocols and coordinate directly with your surgical team to ensure safe, timely progression. Our rehabilitation programs are broken into phases:
- Phase 1 (Weeks 1–4): Pain and swelling control, range of motion restoration, early strengthening
- Phase 2 (Weeks 4–8): Progressive strengthening, functional movement training, gait normalization
- Phase 3 (Weeks 8–12+): Advanced strengthening, sport-specific training, return to full activity
Aquatic Rehabilitation After Surgery
For appropriate surgical cases, aquatic therapy at our West Vero Beach pool can accelerate recovery by allowing earlier weight-bearing and active movement with significantly reduced joint stress. Ask your therapist whether pool therapy is appropriate for your specific procedure and stage of recovery.
Insurance & Referrals
